SEND recruitment FAQs

Common questions

Do I need SEND experience to work in a special school?

Not always. Many support roles welcome people with experience of working with children or young people in other settings, such as youth work or care, alongside the right attitude: calm, patient and resilient. Some roles do ask for SEND or SEMH experience, and we'll always be clear about what each one needs.

What's the difference between SEND and SEMH?

SEND stands for special educational needs and disabilities, and covers a wide range of needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and physical and sensory needs. SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) is one area of SEND, supporting pupils whose emotional or behavioural needs affect their learning.

Which areas do you cover for SEND roles?

Most of our SEND and SEMH schools are across Essex and east London, and we also recruit for specialist settings in Hertfordshire, Suffolk, the Midlands and further afield.

Can you supply SEND staff at short notice?

Yes. We support specialist settings with day-to-day supply, long-term placements and permanent recruitment. Call the team on 01268 205620 to talk about what you need.
